How to play A on the recorder
The fingering for A on a soprano (descant) recorder, with baroque fingering: Left thumb behind, and left pointer and middle fingers on holes 1 and 2.
A
Thumb hole covered, holes 1 2 covered
How to play it
- From B, add your middle finger on hole 2: that's A.
- Keep the pointer finger down as you add the middle one, so the two notes join smoothly.
Why it squeaks or sounds wrong
- If you hear B instead, hole 2 isn't fully covered.
- Fingers lifting too high makes the next note slow: keep them close to the holes.
Free, in your browser: it listens as you play and shows which finger to fix.
