How to play G on the recorder
The fingering for G on a soprano (descant) recorder, with baroque fingering: Left thumb behind, and the left pointer, middle and ring fingers on holes 1, 2 and 3: the whole left hand.
G
Thumb hole covered, holes 1 2 3 covered
How to play it
- From A, add your ring finger on hole 3: that's G, the home note of many beginner songs.
- Lay your fingers flat enough that the soft pads, not the tips, cover the holes.
Why it squeaks or sounds wrong
- A wobbly or airy G usually means hole 3 is half open: ring fingers are weaker, so check it first.
- Too much air makes G jump up into a squeak: blow softly and steadily.
Free, in your browser: it listens as you play and shows which finger to fix.
