How to play high C on the recorder
The fingering for high C on a soprano (descant) recorder, with baroque fingering: Left thumb behind and the left middle finger on hole 2. Hole 1 is open: lift your pointer finger.
high C
Thumb hole covered, hole 2 covered
How to play it
- High C is the first note where a finger lifts in the middle of the left hand: only hole 2 is covered on the front.
- Going from B to high C, lift the pointer and put the middle finger down at the same time.
Why it squeaks or sounds wrong
- If you hear A, your pointer finger is still covering hole 1.
- If the note cracks, blow slightly more steadily: high notes need a firm, even breath.
Free, in your browser: it listens as you play and shows which finger to fix.
